Nothing has ever wounded the Heart of Jesus more than ingratitude.

Fr. Bonaventure Heurlautlare (Father Founder, Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration)

The Evangelical Spirit of St. Patrick

st-patricks-olamnuns-jig-reelMarch 17th has become only secular holiday for many, but we celebrate St. Patrick's Day by having a celebration and watching a movie on the life of St. Patrick, apostle to Ireland. Not all of us have Irish ancestry, but on St. Patrick's Day, we are all Irish as we share in his great evangelical spirit!

It is such an inspiration to hear about the lives of great heroes of the past. As we have learned more about St. Patrick, he has become one of our favorite saints. He was a true missionary who brought the message of Christ's Love to the people of Ireland. His deep faith carried him through many trials and his example can carry us through our own trials.

A Loyal Friend, Sister Mary Raphael

sr-mary-raphaelThis January 9, 2015, was the 15th Anniversary of Sr. Mary Raphael's death. She was our Vicar here at OLAM from the beginning of this foundation until her death in 2000.

She loved singing, art and poetry. Mother Angelica described her as a "loyal friend".

The Trinity

O Trinity within my soul ~ O Love of One in Three
The Arms of Love, embracing Love, in Love's sweet ecstasy.
O Living Flame within me, Love grows beneath Thy Wing.
Leap forth from out my being and teach my heart to sing.

15 years ago, our Lord was placed in the monstrance and the shield was lowered at the end of mass while the choir sung the “Alleluia Chorus”.

Mother Angelica said that it was the happiest day of her life. She had given Jesus something beautiful!

EWTN Foundress and her “First Daughter” Celebrate Milestones in Religious Life

mother-angelica-70th-anniversaryEWTN Foundress and her “First Daughter” Celebrate Milestones in Religious Life

First came the miracle.  Then, 70 years ago this August 15th she laid the foundation for all that would follow.  While millions of people glory in EWTN, the international broadcast empire Mother Mary Angelica built—the one that has brought hope and healing to those inside and outside of the Catholic Church for more than thirty years—few appreciate that it all stands on a decision made by Angelica when she was twenty-one years of age.

Among the many impressive traits of Mother Mary Angelica, her willingness to embrace risk and even suffer in her pursuit of God’s Will has always stood out.  Seventy years ago this week, Rita Rizzo, a vivacious, wounded girl from a broken home took a step that would change the course of church history and alter the direction of millions of lives.  She got there by fearlessly following the inspiration of the present moment.

Epiphany Gift

IMG 7396Even a casual thought about the incredible Solemnity of Epiphany Sunday can induce magnificent wonder! It is certainly another highlight of the Christmas season and here we celebrate Epiphany with theIMG_7447 annual "House Blessing." Caroling in procession, special prayers for each major communal area, incense, holy water, the updated chalk blessing on every doorway (which is quite the exercise in memory!), all add to the joyful and solemn gratitude that pervades this season. Christ has come and our life has incredible meaning when seen in the light of the Incarnation! To emphasize this reality, the House Blessing Procession begins and ends in the choir before the Blessed Sacrament. At the conclusion we pray together Saint Ignatius prayer for generosity. This is our 'gift', or rather our response to God's goodness to us – may it be one we keep ever in mind and heart!

Adoro Te – Dedication of the JPII Eucharistic Center

dedication-jp2-centerAdvent is a quiet season for us here at the monastery. However, a brilliant highlight this month occurred on

December 8th, 2013 as the John Paul II Eucharistic Center here at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament was solemnly dedicated and opened to visitors! His Eminence, Cardinal Burke, joined by Bishop Baker and priests near and far, celebrated Holy Mass for all those gathered for the event – the most fitting prelude for the inauguration of this Center. In his homily, the Cardinal likened the role of the Eucharist Center to that of John the Baptist, the one who bore witness to Christ, who prepared the way of the Lord, who pointed out the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

We hope and pray that the JPII Center will indeed serve to give all who visit it, food for contemplating this great mystery and a deeper glimpse into the mysterium fidei – the mystery of faith.

As cloistered contemplatives, our primary apostolate is adoration of the Most Holy Sacrament and intercession for the whole world.
